FAQs
-
Yes, you should arrange for someone to accompany you or hire a caregiver or nurse to stay with you and assist you. An adult guest is required to stay with you throughout the surgery. Patients and guests should expect to be at the surgery center for a minimum of 3 hours and possibly up to 5-6 hours depending on the combination of surgeries.
Your guest will also need to accompany you to your lodging (i.e. you cannot take a rideshare or taxi by yourself after anesthesia) and stay with you for 24 hours after the procedure.
-
There will be an in-person pre-op (usually the day before surgery). If you are traveling by car, you can return home the day of surgery, but depending on the length of the car ride, you may wish to stay for one night. If you are traveling by plane or train, please plan to stay in Raleigh for at least 48 hours after surgery. There may be some oozing/light bleeding within the first 48 hours, and we do not want this to cause any issues when traveling by plane or train.
-
We recommend waiting at least 48 hours before flying.
-
Patients are unable to drive for the first 24 hours after surgery due to anesthesia. If someone else is driving, patients may depart for home after surgery. However, if it is a long distance drive, you may wish to stay for one night after surgery.
-
We always encourage patients to do in-person visits as much as possible, but we offer virtual post-ops for our out of town patients.
-
Be sure to have your prescriptions and over the counter medications handy.
Hats and sunglasses can help hide some of the swelling and bruising while traveling and will protect from sun exposure during the post operative period.
-
Yes, you and your guest are able to use ridesharing apps to arrange transportation to the surgery center as long as the guest stays with you throughout the surgery and is with you in the rideshare after surgery. Your guest must be with you for 24 hours after anesthesia including any time in a rideshare.
-
We recommend hiring a caregiver or nurse to stay with you. It is a requirement of the surgery center that patients have an adult guest stay with them the entirety of the time at the surgery center and stay with the patient for the first 24 hours after surgery.
