Continuing advances in medical technology allow us to perform increasingly effective non-surgical treatments. One of the core non-surgical options is laser resurfacing, a treatment that results in rejuvenated, youthful skin by addressing multiple cosmetic concerns at once. With two options for CO2 laser resurfacing, our practice in Raleigh helps our patients  look and feel their best.

What Is CO2 Laser Resurfacing?

CO2 laser resurfacing is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that uses precise application of laser energy to address concerns about the appearance, texture, or tone of the skin.

Types of CO2 Laser Treatments We Offer

At our practice in Raleigh, we offer two high-end laser resurfacing treatment options:

eCOTone

This fractionally ablative laser mode treats the skin in shallow bursts with lower energy. Each rapid, precise application of energy removes old skin and further stimulates the skin’s natural regenerative abilities. Your body then produces new, fresh, healthy skin that looks and feels younger.

Benefits of eCOTone

  • Stimulates production of new collagen.

  • A lighter resurfacing option with less downtime.

  • Treat multiple concerns including sun damage, pigmented lesions, wrinkles, pore size and more.

  • Can treat multiple areas (including face, eyelids hands, and neck).

  • Can be performed with topical anesthetic only (no injectable local anesthetic is needed).

eCO2 Plus

The eCO2 Plus treatment is the most powerful option available. High energy treatments can be delivered while avoiding overheating the skin since the Lutronic laser uses patented Controlled Chaos Technology (CCT). This treatment method is more intensive than eCOTone.

Benefits of eCO2 Plus

  • Customized fractional laser for deeper treatments with higher energy.

  • Exceptional and consistent results across a broad range of concerns.

  • The ideal treatment for single session improvement in upper and lower eyelid wrinkles for most patients.

  • Can be used to focally treat skin irregularities like sebaceous hyperplasia.

Is Laser Resurfacing Right for Me?

Laser resurfacing treatments can be tailored to treat patients with almost any skin tone. Laser resurfacing is the gold standard for skin rejuvenation and maintenance. Laser resurfacing can improve:

  • Loss of skin texture due to decreasing skin quality with age (loose or drooping skin).

  • Uneven skin tone (pigmentary changes, sun spots, age spots).

  • Wrinkles and fine lines.

  • Mild to moderate scarring (e.g., acne scars, minor surgical scars).

What Is a Treatment Session Like?

Laser resurfacing treatments are relatively fast, effective, and highly tolerable, making them a popular treatment modality for addressing a range of cosmetic concerns. Some key features of a session are below:

  • Duration: you can expect to be in the office for around 2 to 2.5 hours for each treatment (include numbing time and treatment time).

  • Level of Discomfort: minimal (eCOTone) to mild (eCO2 Plus). Discomfort after the procedure is often described as a heavy sunburn.

  • Number of Sessions: eCOTone: 3 sessions are recommended for the best results. eCO2 Plus: excellent results can be achieved in a single session.

  • Recovery: eCOTone: minimal to mild redness and mild swelling for around 5 days but this can vary depending on the patient. eCO2 Plus: this depends on intensity of treatment and the patient but typically patients are socially presentable and can wear mineral makeup by day 8.

When Can I See the Results?

Patients can see some immediate improvements within days of treatment once the redness and swelling have faded. The treatment continues to produce increasing benefits over the course of months as the body responds with additional collagen production. As your skin heals, newer, fresher skin will become visible, leading to a more youthful, even appearance.
