This patient underwent reconstructive surgery following Mohs micrographic surgery for basal cell carcinoma.

Dr. Mettu frequently collaborates with local Mohs surgeons to take care of patients with skin cancer affecting the eyelids and surrounding structures. The most common types of skin cancer can be excised by specially trained dermatologic surgeons using Mohs micrographic surgery. Once the skin cancer has been successfully removed, a second surgery to reconstruct the area is needed. Reconstruction may involve the movement of adjacent tissue (flaps) or the movement of skin from a separate site (grafts). In some reconstructions, multiple surgeries are necessary.

Dr. Mettu uses reconstructive principles and his mastery of various techniques to help patients obtain the best results possible. Dr. Mettu also recommends UV protection as sun damage is the primary risk factor for the most common types of skin cancer.
